Grow a Garden Weather and Event Mutations Explained
Weather and events are where the biggest crop mutations come from in Grow a Garden. Rain, cold, storms, and limited events each apply environmental mutations that stack on top of growth mutations like Gold. Catching them at the right moment can multiply a crop's value many times over. To see what a caught mutation is worth, price the crop in the Grow a Garden calculator.
How weather and event mutations work
These are environmental mutations, which means they stack. A crop can carry several at once, and each one adds to a shared bonus in the value formula. This stacking is what makes weather and events so powerful.
They apply while the effect is active
A crop takes on a weather or event mutation when the matching condition is active, usually while it is planted and growing. Timing your harvest around weather and events is how you collect these mutations on purpose.
They stack with growth mutations
Weather and event mutations combine with a growth mutation like Gold or Rainbow. Growth multiplies once, then all environmental mutations add together. See the full stacking math in our Grow a Garden mutations guide.
Weather mutations
Weather mutations are the most common environmental effects, tied to in game weather you can plan around.
Common weather effects
| Mutation | Multiplier (est.) | Weather |
|---|---|---|
| Wet | 2x | Rain |
| Chilled | 2x | Cold |
| Frozen | 10x | Deep cold |
| Shocked | 100x | Thunderstorm |
Planning around weather
Wet and Chilled are easy and frequent, so grab them whenever the weather turns. Frozen and Shocked are far more valuable and appear in stronger weather, so keep heavy crops planted when a storm or deep cold is likely.
Event mutations
Event mutations come from limited in game events and carry the largest multipliers in the game. They are rare, which makes crops that catch them premium trade pieces.
High value event effects
| Mutation | Multiplier (est.) | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Bloodlit | 4x | Blood moon |
| Zombified | 25x | Event effect |
| Celestial | 120x | Rare sky event |
| Disco | 125x | Limited event |
| Voidtouched | 135x | Rarest effect |
Catching event mutations
Event mutations only appear during their events, so watch announcements and keep your best crops planted when one starts. A single event mutation on a heavy, Gold or Rainbow crop can create one of the most valuable items you own.
How to maximize mutation value
The goal is to stack as many high value effects as possible on your heaviest, highest tier crops.
Stack for the biggest total
Combine a growth mutation with several environmental ones. Because environmental mutations add together, a crop that is Frozen and Shocked during an event, on top of Gold, reaches a huge multiplier. Confirm the total in the crop value calculator.
Save your best crops for events
Keep heavy, high base value crops ready to plant when events are announced. Pairing rare event mutations with your best crops is the single fastest way to create high value trade anchors. Learn to price those trades in our trading guide.
